My Conclusion

Hi I"m Summer and this is my last blog post about the influence of films! After going through and dissecting many films I realized there were three main things that people were impacted by after watching a movie.  First is Personal views. This would include activism, changes in political views, and changes in public expression, etc. Movies that could fit this list are Barbie, Philadelphia, Blackklansman, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, La La Land, One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest, Frozen, and Inside Out. The next way the public is influenced by movies is through their fears. This includes films that mend or create some type of fear in people causing them to change the way they do things in life in hope to avoid this fear. Examples are ET The Extraterrestrial, Star Trek, Jaws, Philadelphia, The Exorcist, Parasite, and The Ring. The final way I realized people were impacted by movies is creatively/inspirationly. This includes films that make people want to explore subjects...

Google Form Answers

Hi!!! I'm Summer DeWitt and I'm here to talk about the extent that film influences public opinions and action in society. In my last blog I mentioned I would be sending out a Google form to see how my peers have been affected by films in their life. I got many good answers that I can't wait to discuss! To start, I gave people a list of films, then I allowed people to discuss films that they wanted to discuss. An anonymous answer said that after watching Harry Potter they felt inspired by Harry Potter's intelligence and went on to work hard to be intelligent like Harry Potter, and even though they may have watched the movies at a young age, this inspiration led them to work hard and create valuable habits to stay on track in school. Another person said they felt impacted by the Disney movie Frozen because it allowed them to realize the importance of family. This person said the movie showed them how you shouldn't shut out the people who love you and care for you bec...

WhyJaws is interesting

Hi!!!! I’m Summer DeWitt and I’m studying the influence of film on public opinion and action. One of the big movies I talked about before is Jaws, but I want to talk about it even more because I did more research and found some ways this movie has impacted our environment negatively that I found super interesting.  After the release of the movie there was a large increase in men trying to prove themselves to be “strong and manly” by going fishing for large sharks in the 1980s. There was an enormous amount of very large sharks being taken out of the water and misused leading to fatal decrease in sharks. This ended up leading to an increase in the practice of shark finning which is the practice of slicing the fins off of sharks. This is detrimental because even though slicing the fin off the shark won’t kill the shark, their regeneration is extremely slow so they wouldn’t survive if they ended up back in the ocean without their fins. So ultimately the growth in popularity of the movi...

Popular Films and Their influence

Hi!!! I'm Summer and this is my second post on my blog about the extent that film influence's public opinion and actions! I began my research off by googling some of the most popular films from 2010-present. I knew I wanted to create a Google form for my peers to fill out to discuss the ways film has influenced them, so by starting with some influential films from our time that people would recognize it would help me further my research with how film was influencing people both in the past and present. After narrowing it down, these are the films I found from the 2010-present that had a large impact in the box office and on the people watching it. The Social Network (2010), The Avengers Series (2012-Present), The Hunger Games (2012), Frozen (2013), Interstellar (2014), Blakklansman (2018), La La Land (2019), Midsommar (2019), Barbie (2023), and Oppenheimer (2023) I know this is a short list of movies however I knew in order to get good Intel from my audience answering the Goog...
